It's a Journey not a Destination

Just recently, we announced that Keller Williams has taken the triple crown; #1 in Agent Count, #1 in Closed Volume & #1 in Closed Units! What an incredible accomplishment! I personally am so proud to be a part of the World’s Greatest Real Estate company!

While reflecting on the announcement, I remember a few key points I have learned over the years.

1. It’s not the Destination, It’s the Journey

This time of year, we celebrate everyone’s accomplishments from the year before. 2017 was a huge success for so many and it certainly may feel like a destination for some! Many agents admire the success of those achieving far greater results than they currently are experiencing. Having said that, the agents on top, sometimes need to remember that it’s the journey that we are most admiring more so than the destination. In the movie, Pursuit of Happyness, the life story of Chris Gardner, we admire the journey he took to success way more than the success he had. The movie, Homeless to Harvard, the life story of Liz Murray was certainly not the fact that she went to Harvard creating blockbuster success yet the story of how she got there. So what is it about the journey we admire and respect? I believe it’s the relentless commitment to the pursuit, the dedication to the goal, the obstacles to overcome.

2. You Never Really Arrive

We are so excited to have crossed the milestone of #1 in all categories in Real Estate, yet we haven’t arrived. I believe if our minds ever get to a place of arrival, we stop growing. We get complacent. We lose our unrelenting commitment to the pursuit; we lose our dedication to the goal, we quit overcoming obstacles. There is a term that most people are familiar with called Self-Actualization. My definition of Self-Actualization is the subscription in our minds that there is always a better version of ourselves we can become. The truly learning based individual knows this. This alone reminds us that we never really arrive!

The Philadelphia Eagles just won the Super Bowl (Painful to type this) and yet is that really their destination?
An Olympian is receiving a Gold Medal while I’m typing this. Is that their destination?
Musicians and Actors receive Life Time Achievement awards. Is that their destination?
We have Team Leaders & MCA’s receiving the Keller Williams Hall of Fame awards. Is that their destination?
#1 agent in your marketplace. Is that your destination?

We can accomplish so much more together. Let’s Do It!

In the book, Good to Great, by Jim Collins, he eloquently states:

“When [what you are deeply passionate about, what you can be best in the world at and what drives your economic engine] come together, not only does your work move toward greatness, but so does your life. For, in the end, it is impossible to have a great life unless it is a meaningful life. And it is very difficult to have a meaningful life without meaningful work. Perhaps, then, you might gain that rare tranquility that comes from knowing that you’ve had a hand in creating something of intrinsic excellence that makes a contribution. Indeed, you might even gain that deepest of all satisfactions: knowing that your short time here on this earth has been well spent, and that it mattered.” ~ Jim Collins

Congratulations Keller Williams on our Success, now let’s get to work!
