The Choices We Make

Daily we live at a fork in the road. That place on the timeline of our Journey where options present themselves to us. Workout today? Cereal for Breakfast? Wear a Blue Suit? Mexican Food for Lunch? The list could go on and on throughout the day. We live our lives on the Journey presented from the choices we make. While obviously some choices are weighted more or less important in our lives yet nonetheless they are still choices. There is a famous quote by Andrew Ryan that states, “We all make choices, but in the end our choices make us.”

Choice becomes a part of a formula that is best illustrated by an anonymous writer; “Choice”; “Chance”; “Change”; You must make a “choice”, to take a “chance” or you life will never “change.” Fear or Faith? It’s a common agreement in society that you can have fear or faith and not both at the same time. When you apply the Fear or Faith concept to the formula, it can certainly dictate the Journey our lives become. For instance, if Faith is chosen in the decision to get into Real Estate allowing someone to take a chance, their life can become empowered and changed forever. On the other hand, if Fear is chosen not allowing them to get into Real Estate keeping them from taking a chance, their life could potentially be disempowered. Stephen Covey, a well respected business consultant/author, once gave us this affirmation, “I am NOT a product of my circumstances I AM a product of my decisions.”

Growing up we are guided by many forces; society, parents, teachers, peers, etc… They all play a role in forming our decision making ability and molding the choices we make. During the adolescent years, choices are sometime most visible. Transitioning from adolescence to adulthood is becoming accountable and making great choices, and not all make the leap unfortunately!

Business, specifically real estate, success is created by the choices we make on our journey. Albus Dumbledore once said, “It is our choices that show us what we truly are far more than our abilities.” Translated into the real estate profession, the daily, weekly & monthly choices we make as professionals show us who we are more that what we can do. Daily commitment to lead generation. Weekly coaching/accountability sessions. Monthly Profit and Loss reviews. These choices make or break our success as professionals far more than how great we are at selling real estate.

Pressure finds us all! Peer pressure; Financial pressure; Relationship pressure; and so on. Our character and specifically the strength of it encourages us to stay the course! I cannot write an article about choices and character without thinking of Winston Churchill who said, “You can measure a man’s character by the choices he makes under pressure.” Selling real estate is certainly not exempt from pressure, yet we believe our agents make great choices under our Belief System:
